Justine Powell is Chief Commercial Officer at iROKO, the largest distributor of African content worldwide. Her role is to oversee content acquisition for the programming team and to spearhead the company’s global multi-channel distribution, both on and offline, across Pay TV, Internet TV, Inflight and YouTube MCN. She is currently developing iROKO's global licensing business, expanding on a content partner list that already includes British Airways, Emirates, Zuku and Star Times.
Justine has over twenty years’ experience in broadcast and digital, having worked extensively across Europe, the Americas, the Middle East and Africa and has overseen multi-million dollar sales and content budgets. Before joining iROKO, Powell worked for some of the world’s most iconic media companies. At CNBC she was VP of Distribution, where she successfully launched the CNBC TV app and at Associated Press, she was Director of Sales for Europe & Africa, responsible for the company’s prolific licensing business. She has also previously held roles at the BBC and Viacom.
She has an impressive track record of working with leading content producers and distributors and has launched and distributed popular content on new platforms, with a strong focus on emerging markets. When she’s not bringing the best African entertainment to the world, she is a keen ski mountaineer as well as a qualified ski instructor.
