James Currell is Senior Vice President, Chief Operating Officer, for Viacom International Media Networks (VIMN) in the UK, Australia and Central and Eastern Europe.
Reporting to David Lynn, President of VIMN’s operations managed out of the UK, James played a leading role in Viacom’s acquisition of Channel 5 Broadcasting in September 2014 and, subsequently, the negotiation of an extended 5-year affiliate and advertising sales partnership with Sky.
As COO, James has pan-regional responsibility for VIMN’s pay TV brands – Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon – covering a variety of key territories including the Australia and New Zealand, Russia, Hungary, Israel and the UK, where VIMN is the most successful international supplier of pay channels in terms of share of viewing.
In addition, James continues to oversee a variety of centralised functions within VIMN’s operations managed out of the UK, including Business and Legal Affairs, Finance, Production, Strategy, Corporate Communications, Human Resources and Research.
Since becoming COO in 2012, James has taken a leading role in driving the growth of VIMN’s pan-regional operations managed out of the UK, growing revenues and improving profitability.
James joined Viacom in 2001, as Financial Controller for Paramount Pictures, based in Los Angeles before moving to New York in 2006 to take up the position of Financial Controller for MTV Networks International (now VIMN). Prior to joining Viacom, James was senior audit manager for PricewaterhouseCoopers’ media & entertainment practice in Los Angeles.
